I have interviewed a lot of successful entrepreneurs in their respected fields and none of them would be successful today were it not for their mentors.  In the internet marketing field there are so many “wannabee” internet coaches who claim to make millions of dollars.  Not only do they make millions of dollars, but they do it very quickly.  That is just a bunch of hype!  Don’t believe it.  Yes I will get a lot of flack for writing that, but it will be flack from those so called internet marketers who make those outrageous claims.  Massive success takes time and hard work there is no question about it; the great thing is that it does happen with persistence.  Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise because the get rich quick ideas are bad news!  That is why they are often referred to as get rich schemes. lol

Not everything is a scam of course.  On the flip side of what I just said I think many people have it in their minds that most money making strategies are scams.  There are great people in the internet marketing space who are very intelligent, who have made a lot of money and are willing to share their money making strategies with you without taking every last dime you have in the process. 

Terry Dean is one of my favorite internet marketers and I will tell you why later!  First of all I want to share with you a brief list of what you need to look out for if you are looking for an internet mentor. Again, great mentors are out there you just need to watch out for some of the following:

1) Are they competent? Do some research! Are they really helping other people succeed online or are they just “claiming to teach others”

2) Does the internet guru have a proven step by step system or set of instructions that teach you “how” to do what they are talking about.  Some mentors will teach you what you need to do but don’t necessarily show you “how” to do it.  We have all had those teachers in school.

3) Make sure the person you want to hire has integrity.  Many people in this industry are out to make a quick buck and they don’t care if they ever see you again.  They lie and cheat.  Be careful!

4) You have to ask yourself: How long have they been online? are they in it for the long haul or again, are they in it for the short term to take the money and run?  Are they really interested in serving their customers?

5) Watch out for the high pressured sales approach, especially over the phone.  These are the type of people that put tremendous pressure on you to make a decision today!  Listen, the same opportunity will be there tomorrow and next year regardless of what they may tell you.

6)  Online marketers: I heard this from Terry Dean: Pay attention to how you feel when you read a sales copy!  If you feel something isn’t right when you read it then it is your gut telling you that you shouldn’t, don’t do it!

I have done my research on many internet marketers and internet marketing companies.  I worked for a very large internet marketing company at one time; it was both good and bad, but I was grateful I had the experiences I did.  I’m just saying that I know what to look for in a mentor and I have found none with as much integrity and knowledge about the internet as Terry Dean.  He is the real deal!

I have been studying the lifestyles and trends of many millionaires and I am finding some common trends.  Yes, I have read The Millionaire Next Door, The Millionaire Mind and many biography’s of the rich and famous.  There are commonalities that most millionaires share and one of them is common sense.  I have compiled a list of common characteristics that the wealthy have in common.

1) Millionaires have amazing work ethic and desire to succeed: It’s not about just working hard or smart.  It’s both!  The majority of millionaires work about fifty-nine hours a week where the average joe works forty or less. 
  
2) Millionaires understand there the power of leverage: They leverage other people’s time, talents and money for wealth accumulation.  Here is a great example. A great Real Estate investor may have ten amazing realtor’s looking for their next best deal.  The entrepreneur may spend a fair amount of time looking for their next deal, however, they will do their best to leverage experts time for their benefit.  It’s just smart business.

3)  Millionaires are passionate about what they do: Most millionaires have created and continue to create businesses around their passion.  They are successful because they put in the time, energy and effort into their businesses.  It is easy for them to do because it doesn’t seem like work to them most of the time.

4)  Millionaires have multiple sources working for them at once:  We have all heard the term multiple streams of income by now.  An internet entrepreneur may have 10 or more businesses, or streams of income; online at one time.  Each business is making a profit for them.  Most have several businesses and many millionaires just don’t tackle one project at a time.

5) Millionaires are surprisingly conservative: The millionaires that make and keep their money and resources have a long term plan for their success.  They tend to spend less than they earn, living well below their means.  Those that come into new money are not wise investors and tend to be spenders.

6) Many have become automated millionaires: They pay themselves first even before they pay the government.  They may take 10-15% of their income and have that automatically withdrawn from their income so they will never miss that money.

7) They love to give: Many millionaires are giving at least 10% of their income to a charity of their choice or pay tithing to their church.  This helps enrich their lives and the lives of many others.  It also helps them manage their money.

Millionaires have mentors: Yes, all successful people seem to have mentors that have helped them avoid the pitfalls and trial and error they may experience on their own.  They love to learn from those who have been there before them and save time and money learning from the mistakes of others.

Of course there are many more examples of what the rich and famous do with their time, energy and talents.  Now it’s your turn to start another stream of income.

As many of you know I have interviewed several of today’s top online internet marketers.  All of these gurus started with a very simple idea or have used other people’s ideas to generate millions of dollars online.  

Have you ever dreamed of becoming an internet millionaire? or are you just looking to generate a few thousand dollars a month?  Either way you can have what you want if you are willing to pay the price.    

Most people dream of becoming very successful entrepreneurs. They dream of a millionaire lifestyle that they see on television.  They dream of having millions of dollars, a mansion, luxury vehicles, several vacation homes and all of the free time they want.  Does that lifestyle exist?  If it does would you want it anyway? really?

What separates those that truly have become internet successes from those that never will be?   After interviewing several internet gurus and very successful entrepreneurs I have found that work ethic is the biggest key to success.  Now this may be a no-brainer statement for most of us and maybe a shock to some people, especially after reading Timothy Ferris’s “Four Hour Work Week”.  You many be thinking of course you need to work hard, everybody knows that.  Did you know many successful entrepreneurs have told us how they became successful and still most people aren’t willing to make the sacrifices themselves to get there.  There is also a difference between Dreamers vs. Doers.

I recently interviewed Mark Comer (sold his internet business for $560 million in 1998) and we were talking about work ethic.  Many young “wannabee” successful entrepreneurs think they can make great money online working 1-2 hours a day.  After asking Mark Comer what it takes to be successful he told me that you have to be willing to start working early in the morning and work late into the night.  You have to make some sacrifices along the way.  Simple sacrifices like not going to the movies sometimes with your friends or watching every single episode of your 12 favorite television shows. Not that you can’t enjoy life, but success takes some type of sacrifice and it’s usually time.  That is why it’s important to choose a career that you are truly passionate about so your time is spent doing things you enjoy to do and make money. 

Success takes time and a great deal of patience! 

When you first start an online business, you should expect three months of hard work before you see much money, if any at all.  Yes, you will get the occasional sale or two, but to get brand recognition and for people to recognize your name and know what you are all about takes months of plugging away everyday without getting an immediate reward.

I’m not trying to discourage anyone from starting an online business, but the reality is it can be a difficult task in the beginning.

When all said and done, anybody can make a full time income online, I know that to be a fact.  You don’t need to be very brilliant at all to do it.  Affiliate marketing is an excellent way to make money online.  Thousands of people make a full-time living with affiliate marketing.  But again, what separates the big fish from the small is work ethic. You have to be willing to put in the time, energy and effort for your business to grow.  And again, you have to be patient for the rewards of success.

If you have the time, the patients and the work ethic I would suggest investing your time and energy into information marketing.  It is simple to create your own products that sell if you follow these steps in this program.  I say simple because there is a system to follow and most people can follow a step-by-step system especially when they are guaranteed a reward in the long run.

Our thoughts about money are infused in us at a very early age.  When you asked your parents to buy something for you when you, did your parents respond to you in a negative tone about the purchase or a positive tone?  Did they say what’s the matter, you think money grows on trees; or did they say something like how are you going to pay for it?

Starting your own business may be easier than you think. Many people right now are fearing the economy and their own financial futures.  The problem with fear is that it paralysis people.  People begin to be afraid to start new business ventures for a variety of fears especially lack of venture capital.  The fact is, you don’t need much money to get started.

There is never a perfect time to start your own business.  I started my first business right after I got a “real job” out of college.  The schedule was hectic but I had a vision or a goal and I went after it.  I had to put in some long hours after my day job but I was okay with that because I knew what my outcome was going to be.  The outcome was to get to a financial point in my life where I could fire my boss and never look back. 

My first entrepreneurial job out of college was to instruct pitchers how to throw a Baseball.  I was good at it and now I’m great at it; I still do it.  Why?  I enjoy it, the income is decent and the kids need my help.  The Pitching Academy started as a way to make a side income and it has really become a full time opportunity.  My way of advertising was showing up at the ballparks talking to parents about what I do.  That still works, but now when I go to the ballparks people line up to take lessons.  I’m not bragging!  I’m just saying no matter what your passion is get started on it right away. 

Not long after I had several hundred students I thought it was necessary to start an online business for The Pitching Academy. I wanted to help a much broader audience but just didn’t have the time. A publicist from U.S. News and World Report wrote about the beliefs of Jeff Yeager, author of The Ultimate Cheapskate’s Roadmap to True Riches. Jeff and I share some of the common strategies to wealth creation and early retirement.  I believe wealth takes time to accumulate; yet it isn’t as difficult as most people think.  We can retire in our 40′s like Jeff and his wife did if we are smart and depending on what quality of life we are really after.

In this article Jeff mentions that he doesn’t “write about penny-pinching tips” in his book.  He focuses more on “quality-of-life and happiness issues” like deciding how much is enough for you.

My wife and I have had that conversation several times the last year.  I really believe in a simple life; a life without big fancy cars and homes. Most wealthy people; the “truly wealthy” live a simple life compared to the amount of income they earn.  They are smart with their big purchases buying used yet reliable vehicles like Honda’s, they pay off their mortgages early, they only use cash and not credit when purchasing anything.

I am in my early thirties.  My wife and I plan on having our mortgage done in our early forties at the latest.  Jeff mentions your first home is the one you plan on staying in forever; pay it off and move on, you don’t need to keep getting bigger and better homes.  I agree!  That is what Warren Buffet did.

I would much rather put money toward mini retirements and vacations along the way instead of being house or car poor.  I follow this “outdated” advice and it has worked well for me and my family; pay cash for everything and if you can’t afford it don’t get it.

There is one thing I don’t mind spending money on and that is a great education.  I’m not talking about just a college education.  I’m talking about investing in self improvement books, finance books, nightingale conant audio programs etc.  Fill your brain with material that will uplift you and make you a better person in every way.  Don’t go cheap on education!
